Program Details:
Great news: we are running a new Curbside Composting Pilot Program, in partnership with The Compost Exchange. If you missed the last one, which was a great success, here is your chance! The summary is below:

Food waste in the U.S. produces greenhouse gases equivalent to 37 million passenger cars annually. More than one million pounds of food waste enters the Franklin County landfill every day, creating methane gas and wasting resources.
Sustainable Grandview is partnering with The Compost Exchange (TCE) to offer a free 6-week trial for weekly curbside food waste pick-up in the Grandview area (Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff, and 5th by Northwest). The trial will start on Wednesday, February 10th, and pick up will occur every Wednesday thereafter for 6 weeks. At the end of the trial, residents will have the option to sign up for the service and pay a monthly service fee, or to not continue with the program. This monthly fee is currently a discounted $9/month for Grandview-area residents, thanks to the large number of existing subscribers. It can decrease further if more people sign up.

Food waste collected will be used to make compost. Instructions on what type of food is acceptable will be provided, but almost all food can be composted through this program, including vegetables, meats, bones, and peels. Cooking oils in bulk are not accepted.

The Compost Exchange will provide qualified residents who sign up for this program with a plastic 5-gallon bucket, an odor/critter-proof resealable lid, a compostable, plant-based liner bag (that goes inside the bucket), and a set of instructions. Starting Wednesday, February 10, by 8:00 a.m., residents will be responsible for placing their sealed and liner bag loaded bucket outside (to be visible yet safe) between their front steps and sidewalk. TCE will exchange the filled/partially filled liner bag for an empty new one, leaving the resealed bucket in the same spot.

If you are interested in participating in this free 6-week curbside composting trial or have questions, please email:

Also, please pass this offer on to any Grandview area neighbors who might be interested!
